Primary HIV/AIDS Health Prevention


Health Promotion - Community HIV Outreach Coordinated Services
We provide health awareness and primary prevention information on HIV/AIDS and sexual health issues to African communities and health professionals through one-to-one support and group work.

The aim is to

  • Provide preventative awareness, education, advice and information on a range of issues for African communities on HIV/AIDS and other sexual health issues
  • Educate people regarding HIV/AIDs and other sexually transmitted infections
  • Provide support and encouragement to help facilitate positive healthier sexual behavioural
  • Help clients gain self-esteem and know how to live positively
  • Refer clients to other service providers such as hospitals and clinics

We achieve the aims through

  • Outreach activities
    Distribution of free condoms and sexual health educational materials at venues dominated by African people e.g. markets, barbershops, salons, African clubs, bars and pubs. This work is mainly done on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. We also hold stalls at community events.

  • Organising and facilitating training workshops and seminars to the African community and to professionals
    We work with any relevant group, such as faith groups, community organisations, users support groups, community forums, focus discussion groups, youth groups, colleges, universities, hospital medical staff etc.

  • Free rapid HIV testing Clinic
    AHEAD-START- We provide free rapid HIV testing, delivering results within one hour.
    The clinic is open every Tuesday from 6 - 8pm

  • Office based consultations
    For one-to-one support and for group consultations
    visit on Monday, Wednesday or Friday 10.00am - 4.00pm (no appointments needed)

  • African Access Project
    Supporting clients living with HIV to access appropriate services. We provide help in housing, immigration, training, health, benefits, social and emotional support.
